Grades 6-12 According to recent surveys, more than two million Americans own vanity license plates.  Instead of getting stuck with meaningless, preselected letter-number combinations, more and more drivers use the five or six allotted letters to create their own messages for their plates. Match each vanity license plate with the corresponding profession of the car owner. Turn in a completed entry form before the end of May. If your entry is drawn as the winner, you’ll receive gift certificates to Cinemark.

Cost: $180 $50 deposit is required at registration.
To register call 419-522-4401 or toll free 877-ART-HENE (278-4363)

Learn Peggi Habets' watercolor techniques to create extraordinary portraits that capture your subjects' personality and likeness. You will receive lots of individual attention with a small class size (maximum 12 students).  Snacks provided.

Peggi Habets is an award-winning watercolor and oil portrait artist. Her life-long interest in art and a 15-year career in graphic design and illustration have all led to her current career as a portrait painter. She was nominated as Pittsburgh Center for the Arts "Emerging Artist of the Year 2008". She has received numerous awards for her work and has been included in "Best of America: Watercolor Artists", Watercolor Magic magazine, Palette magazine, and the Portrait Society of America's The Art of The Portrait magazine. Her painting "The Forest for The Trees" won Best of Show at the Asssociated Artists of Pittsburgh exhibition at Fallingwater in June 2010. More recently Peggi won second place for her painting "Recollection" in the Watercolor Artist's Magazines Watermedia Showcase competition which was featured in the February 2011 edition and she was the featured artist for Empty Easel for August 2011. Peggi is currently authoring a book on her techniques for Walter Foster Publishing.
ARTIST STATEMENT: "Although my portraits capture the likeness of the person or pet I'm painting, I don't attempt to create portraits that look like photographs. Instead, I let the personality and characteristics of the subject I'm painting guide my decisions. I bring my own style and ideas to the paper using color, brushstroke and composition to create mood and emotion. My greatest reward is to complete a portrait that captures not only the likeness of the person or animal, but more importantly, their unique personality."

To learn more about Peggi or see more of her artwork, visit her website at : http://www.habets-studio.com

Second Floor Lobby The Upriver band performs music of the Appalachian Mountains. They will take you beyond the mountains, reaching back over centuries to offer up the ancient tunes of the Irish and Scottish homelands. Musicians, Dan and Teresa, play tunes that you know and some that you don’t know, but every tune has a story. This concert is made possible by a generous donation from the Friends of the Library.

Every year hundreds of talented local artists submit their works to Mansfield's lauded May Show. Of course, only a very select few are chosen for the final show. But each piece is filled with the heart and soul of the artist and each deserves to be shared with the appreciative public. Come to the May No-Show to support your favorite local artist and see the best of the rejects!
